Driving around St Helena Island

St Helena is only 47 sq miles around, or about the size of Walt Disney World. That's about 10 miles by 6.5 miles across, and being volcanic the hills makes it feel so much bigger! With around 80 miles of roads on St Helena, and a speed limit of 30mph, lower in some places like Jamestown, you can drive to most places in about 15-30 minutes.

As you pass other drivers or just people along the road, its considered rude not to wave. Whether you know them or not, just raise a hand or couple of fingers as you drive pass to wave and say alright. With the roads snaking around hills and through forests, we have a saying whereby you cut around the corners and shoot around the bends. Because of this, there isn't really a stretch of road that allow you to drive much faster than 30mph without it being stupidly dangerous.

In the video below we show you want its like to drive around St Helena. We've tried to cover as much of the island as possible. Making sure to show you want it's like drive through the main places on St Helena. We start at Jamestown, then drive through Half Tree Hollow, St Pauls, Blue Hill, Sandy Bay, Levelwood, Longwood, Alarm Forest and back to Jamestown. In all it took us about 2 hours to cover this route at normal speed, doubling back on our self a couple of times. We've sped it up in the video so can see all the amazing scenery and experience what driving is like in a shorter time.
